In the past, ensuring safe location of relief device discharges and vents to atmosphere was largely ignored. Several recent and high profile incidents illustrate the consequences of this oversight. Due to these environmental and safety risks posed by relief devices discharging to atmosphere, many facilities are tying in the relief devices to a closed disposal system (i.e. to flare). Tying in these additional relief sources can have a profound impact on the design of the disposal system. Smith & Burgess engineers are experts at evaluating this impact and providing solutions to ensure all code requirements are met.
